Experienced Welders needed in Australia

Wood is hiring experienced Welders for the Ampol Lytton Refinery turnaround in Lytton, Brisbane, Queensland, Australia. This is a short-term, full-time opportunity for experienced welding professionals to join a fast-paced shutdown team working on a major refinery event for approximately four weeks.

The role involves welding and pipefitting work in a heavy industrial environment, with a strong focus on safety, quality, teamwork and reliable project delivery. The position is Brisbane-based, although experienced candidates from outside Southeast Queensland may also be considered.

The Role

Wood is looking for experienced Welders to join its maintenance and turnaround team supporting the Ampol Lytton Refinery shutdown.

The successful candidates will carry out welding and related pipefitting duties while working safely and efficiently in a high-performing heavy industry environment. Candidates must be available within the required timeframe to complete a medical and provide the necessary work and safety documentation.

Your day-to-day responsibilities may include:

  • Carrying out welding work during the Ampol Lytton Refinery shutdown.
  • Performing pipe welding on carbon steel, stainless steel and chromoly materials.
  • Using MMAW, GTAW and FCAW welding processes as required.
  • Carrying out pipefitting duties when required.
  • Following all site safety procedures and maintaining a strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Working effectively as part of a shutdown and turnaround team.
  • Taking ownership of assigned welding and maintenance responsibilities.
  • Working autonomously when required while maintaining project and safety standards.
  • Supporting maintenance and turnaround activities in a heavy industrial environment.
  • Completing work according to required quality, safety and operational standards.
  • Cooperating with other trades and site personnel to support efficient project delivery.
  • Maintaining required safety tickets, certificates and work documentation.
  • Completing Wood’s medical and site requirements before commencing work.
  • Supporting other welding and pipefitting duties as required during the shutdown.

Candidate Requirements

Wood is seeking applicants who bring:

  • Proven experience as a Welder in heavy industry environments.
  • Trade qualification in welding or a relevant trade.
  • At least 5 years of experience working in a heavy industry environment.
  • Experience with pipe welding involving carbon steel, stainless steel and chromoly.
  • Experience using MMAW, GTAW and FCAW welding processes.
  • Welding tickets 4, 5 and 7 are desirable.
  • Previous maintenance experience in heavy industry.
  • Previous shutdown or turnaround experience is an advantage.
  • Oil and gas industry experience is an advantage.
  • Current Working at Heights ticket.
  • Current Confined Space ticket.
  • Ability to pass a Wood medical.
  • Ability to provide required certificates, safety tickets and driver’s licence through MyPass.
  • Strong commitment to workplace safety.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Self-motivated and reliable approach to work.
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of assigned duties.
  • Willingness to perform pipefitting duties when required.
  • Full working rights in Australia.
