Position Summary
We’re currently seeking an experienced Aluminium Welder to join our trades team in Mt Wellington/Panmure, Auckland. The successful candidate will bring practical welding and fabrication skills, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively to meet project deadlines.
You will be working across a range of custom jobs, handling aluminium and sheet metal components that require precision welding, assembly, and finishing.
Key Responsibilities
- Interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and job specifications.
- Select, measure, clean, and prepare aluminium or sheet metal materials.
- Cut metal sections using hand tools, grinders, and cutting machines.
- Accurately align and secure components using clamps, levels, and measuring tools.
- Perform welding using appropriate techniques (TIG, MIG, etc.) for aluminium and other metals.
- Conduct inspections to ensure weld integrity, precision, and strength.
- Smooth, polish, or clean welds through grinding, filing, or chemical treatment.
- Operate general engineering machinery and tools safely and efficiently.
- Collaborate with the workshop team to ensure timelines and quality standards are met.
- Follow all Health & Safety protocols and maintain a clean, hazard-free workspace.
- Perform finishing processes including polishing, deburring, and corrosion treatment.
- Record job completion notes and communicate material or repair needs to supervisors.
Required Qualifications & Skills
- A minimum of 3 years of relevant experience in aluminium/metal welding and fabrication.
- Skill Level 3 welding certification or equivalent hands-on expertise preferred.
- Proficiency with welding tools, grinders, and engineering machines.
- Ability to read and work from technical drawings and specifications.
- Strong understanding of metal properties and fabrication techniques.
- Attention to detail with a commitment to quality craftsmanship.
- Reliable and self-motivated with the ability to work under pressure.
- Good English communication skills – written and verbal.
- Full driver’s licence preferred.
- Must legally entitled to work in New Zealand (NZ residency or valid work visa).

Salary & Benefits
Pay Rate: Competitive – aligned with experience and skill level (market typical: $28 – $35/hr).
