Key Responsibilities
As a construction worker, your duties may include the following:
- Load, unload, and transport construction materials.
- Perform pre-operational inspections of equipment and tools.
- Read blueprints and determine work requirements.
- Erect and dismantle concrete forms, scaffolding, ramps, catwalks, shoring, and barricades.
- Operate pile-driving cranes to drive pilings into the ground for structural support.
- Instruct and assist apprentices on construction tasks.
- Mix, pour, and spread materials such as concrete and asphalt.
- Assist in framing houses, erecting walls, and building roofs.
- Level earth to fine-grade specifications.
- Pave and rake asphalt surfaces.
- Assist in demolition activities and site preparation.
- Clean and pile salvaged materials.
- Perform routine maintenance work.
- Tend or feed machines and equipment used in construction.
- Direct traffic at or near construction sites.
Skills & Qualifications
In order to qualify for the job, you need the following:
- 7 months to less than 1 year of construction experience.
- Ability to work safely in a physically demanding environment.
- Knowledge of construction materials and site operations.
- Experience using concrete saws, jackhammers, forklifts, and hand tools.
- Ability to read blueprints and follow construction specifications.
- Strong work ethic and attention to detail.
- Good communication and teamwork skills.
- Willingness to work outdoors in varying weather conditions.
Work Environment
This role involves:
- Work must be completed at the physical location. There is no option to work remotely.
- Outdoor construction site environment.
- Noisy and dusty working conditions.
- Residential construction, sidewalks and curbs, water mains, poured concrete, and roofing projects.
